tell us that the Prince Albert Model Forest area was a spruce
forest about 10,500 years ago, after the retreat of the last
great ice age about 13,000 years ago. With the retreat of
these continental ice sheets, which were up to a kilometer
thick, the ecological landscape slowly evolved. Over time,
rivers carved the landscape, climatic changes influenced
soils and vegetation, plant and animal populations responded
to the changing environment.
first collage is a portrait of this environment, as it
has existed for millennia, long before human habitation.
A focal point is the majestic eagle, celebrated by First
Nations as a creature of power and grace, and, with its
great vision, as the eyes of the Creator. Also represented
are the fish, birds, animals, plants, trees, water and
skies – all precious resources that the Prince Albert
Model Forest Partnership is endeavouring to sustain.
